April 22: We joined a large family group for dinner at this seafood restaurant in Kuta Beach. It was quite good, and the lighting on the restaurant exterior made for a good photo. Let’s see if it will also make a good mosaic.

The Seven Mosques Cycling Loop
Went for a morning bicycle ride around some small villages west of Surabaya. The route passes 7 mosques (at least). It was a good ride, both scenic and warm. Here are two photos from that ride. My tour guide Derek is sitting in his trike in the first image, and that is the season’s first rice harvest in the foreground.

April 10: We went for a sunrise 4.5 km walk along this water quality restoration facility near Kuta, Bali. There was a lot of tropical moisture in the atmosphere.

We went for a walk in the Tokyo Metropolitan Shiba Park on our last morning in Shiba, and we ran across a number of groups of young children being shepherded by their minders, all with colorful hats.

Underneath an Atmospheric River
22 February 2024: Here are two images taken in Hermosa Beach on Monday February 19 when LA County was directly under an ‘atmospheric river,’ also known as the pineapple express. The rain had let up long enough for me to take a walk down to the beach and see what the ocean looked like. In the first image the spray thrown up by the surf is obscuring the Manhattan Beach pier. The second image looks south toward the Redondo Beach Harbor breakwater.
