I recently finished a Black and White photography workshop as a webinar, and the image below was my a homework assignment. This was taken on a morning trip to the South Coast Botanic Gardens.
I was specifically inspired by the excellent black and white artistry of Byong-Ho (Brad) Kim, a local photographer. This image is in memory of his work.

An interesting view of the Hermosa Pier (in the distance, just above the wall) as seen through a modernistic house on Monterey Avenue.

I am going to guess that this contractor does fences. His or her tools of the trade are certainly nicely lined up in the truck bed.

From a recent walk up and down the small streets between Aviation and 14th Street. These nice graphic lines are on the side of a house on Corona Street.

Part of a small but attractive cactus stand over on Campana street, seen on our morning walk. Converted to black and white using some new and very cool techniques!

The image in the previous post was actually a test shot for exposure, using the digital SLR. I really did not care if there was a car in it or not, but between the car and the colors that image turned out fairly good. This post is the subsequent shot of the same place, but with the Hasselblad and black and white film. I guess both are rather intriguing in their own way. Which do you like best?

While we are waiting for me to complete another roll of film for the quarantine walks, here is a completely different image from June. I have started following a very good Los Angeles street landscape photographer who was highlighted in a recent New York Times article. I am inspired to try my hand at similar photos, with my own spin attached.

So here is an initial attempt from a test shot I did at the end of June, only two blocks from home.

As a photographic exercise I wandered the night streets of Hermosa Beach a few weeks back looking for lit storefronts. Here is one of them.

Lily discovered this papaya tree growing here in our own neighborhood. It is the tall tree on the left, with the papayas hanging down below the leaves. Amazing for a tropical plant to be growing in our Mediterranean climate.
